Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe is a German international NGO founded in 1981, with over four decades of experience in humanitarian aid and development across 28 countries in Asia, Africa, and Europe. Guided by its core principle of “helping people to help themselves,” Help empowers communities through local partnerships and sustainable solutions. The organization has been officially active in Afghanistan since 2006, maintaining a strong presence in the western provinces while also providing emergency support in other regions, such as cash assistance to earthquake-affected families in Kunar in late 2025.
In Afghanistan, Help’s work is structured around three strategic pillars: Emergency Response, reaching more than 300,000 people with life-saving assistance since 2020; Agri-Livelihood Support, strengthening climate resilience and promoting women-led agribusiness; and Vocational Training, where over 18,000 graduates 65% successfully employed have benefited since 2006. In 2025 alone, Help supported 16,914 households, 40% of them female-headed, across five provinces with cash and in-kind assistance, reinforcing resilience and meeting urgent humanitarian needs.
