Call for Hub and Start Network Membership

The Afghanistan Humanitarian Hub is a locally-led and globally connected collective of local, national, and international humanitarian organizations working together to alleviate human suffering in Afghanistan. The purpose of the Hub is to build a humanitarian system in Afghanistan that is locally-led, proactive, sustainable and accountable to the people.

Together, members of the Hub are advancing a humanitarian action that is anticipatory, locally-led and community-legitimate. The community-directed and expert facilitated process of collaoboration. The Hub serves as a platform enabling humanitarian innovation and impact at the community level. The Hub assists affected communities in their efforts to prepare for, respond to and recover from crises through a strength-based and community-directed process.

Vision Statement: A humanitarian system in Afghanistan that is anticipatory, locally-led, sustainable, and based on local priorities.

Mission Statement: We work together to empower communities to prepare for, respond to, and recovery from crises.

By Joining the Hub, you will be able to:

  1. Use the opportunity to be part of a community-centered, locally-led proactive and dignified delivery of humanitarian relief to people affected by crises.

  2. Participate in the Governance and inform Strategy decisions of the Afghanistan Humanirarian Hub and Start Network.

  3. Collectively lead the Hub and leverage the added value of collaboration across organizations and sectors.

  4. Become part of a locally-led and global-connected movement of mission driven organizations dedicated to reducing human suffering.

  5. Engage with and directly infuence, shape and co-create global agendas around humanitarian aid.

  6. Access Standardized Start Network Global Due Diligence.

  7. Access funding opportunities and collective programs.

  8. Access regerative community finance initiatives and innovative resourcing models.

  9. Catalytic Knowlege, Toolkits and Organizational growth and ustainability Support.

  10. Locally-led, Community-centered mechanisms and Frameworks for collaboration.

  11. Community Legitimate. Solving real human problems with and for the people least advantaged.

  12. Network of Operational Presence, Trained Community Volunteers, Commuity leaders, Commuity-based Aid delivery mechanisms.

Memberhip Responsbilities are:

  • Active participation in decion-making processes, co-design activities, strategy, programs, advocacy and community engagement.
  • Advancing the collective mission of the Hub through financial, in-kind, knowledge and human resource contributions.
  • Committment to act in alignment with the Hub's vision, mission, values, founding principles and code of conduct.
  • Demonstrating commitment to the principles of Network Leadership by consistently prioritizing collaboration on outcomes for the people above individual organizational interests.

Members Criteria

  1. Be legally registered and authorised to operate in Afghanistan as a local Non-Governmental Organization.
  2. Be a non-profit, non-partisan entity with a demonstrated commitment to humanitarian principles and action.
  3. Not be subject to sanctions, active fraud investigations, or restrictions that would prevent participation in humanitarian programming or funding mechanisms.
  4. Have a safeguarding policy in place.
  5. Demonstrates strong relationships with and accountability to the communities it serves.
  6. Brings experience, expertise or geographic reach that would strengthen the Hub’s collective capacity.
  7. Demonstrate sufficient organisational systems and practices to participate responsibly in a collaborative humanitarian network.
  8. Possess a minimum of 3 years' experience in humanitarian assistance.
  9. Demonstrated alignment with a community-legitimate, locally-led and expert-facilitated approach to the design and implementation of humanitarian programs.
