About AWN:
Following the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, China, where Afghan women representing various organizations and United Nations agencies participated, the idea of establishing a unified platform for cooperation and coordination among Afghan women emerged. Inspired by global women’s movements and the need for collective action, these participants formally established the Afghan Women’s Network in 1995.
The Afghan Women’s Network (AWN) serves as a national platform that brings together women’s organizations and individual members to strengthen collaboration, promote shared learning, and support institutional development. It provides a structured space for organizations to enhance their capacities and contribute to community-based initiatives.
AWN maintains an active presence in multiple provinces, including Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar, Bamyan, Paktia, Nangarhar, Badakhshan and Kunduz, while also engaging members across other regions of Afghanistan. As an umbrella network, AWN works in coordination with its members to implement initiatives focused on community well-being, access to services, and capacity strengthening. The network comprises over 5,000 individual members and more than 150 member organizations.
Job Description:
Background: The Afghan Women's Network (AWN) is implementing a capacity-building project to strengthen the knowledge, skills, and leadership capacity of Women-Led Civil Society Organizations (WCSOs).
A total of approximately 200 participants- who will receive structured training across five key thematic areas that address critical challenges faced by NGOs women leaders in Afghanistan. To ensure high-quality learning outcomes, AWN seeks to recruit five qualified trainers, each responsible for delivering training on a specific thematic topic using modern adult learning methodologies.
Training Topics: Each Trainers will be responsible for one of the following topics:
- Resilience and Psycho-social Support training (4 days, 3 hours per day per group)
- Safeguarding training (2 days, 4 hours per day per group)
- Security Awareness and Digital Cyber Security training (2 days, 4 hours per day per group)
- Advocacy and Lobbying training (2 days, 4 hours per day per group)
- Networking training (1 day, 4 hours per group)
The purpose of this assignment is to design and deliver high-quality training programs, develop comprehensive training manuals, and facilitate structured learning sessions. It also aims to strengthen participants’ technical and practical skills, ensure that trainings meet international capacity-building standards, and support participants in applying their knowledge in their work.
Key Responsibilities
Training Needs Understanding: The Trainer shall:
- Review project objectives and participant profiles
- Understand training goals and expected outcomes
- Coordinate with AWN project team
- Adapt training content to local context
- Ensure relevance to Afghan realities
Development of Training Manual- Each Trainer shall;
- Develop a comprehensive Training Manual
- Prepare structured training modules
- Develop session plans
- Prepare learning materials & ensure materials are clear and practical
- Use simple and understandable language with practical examples
- Include exercises and group activities, along with Case Studies relevant to Afghanistan
- Ensure gender-sensitive content
- Submit manual for review and approval
The mentioned above manual must include learning objectives, session outlines, and detailed training content to guide the process. It should also contain exercises, handouts, and case studies to support understanding and practical application. In addition, pre-tests and post-tests should be included to measure learning progress, along with evaluation forms to assess the effectiveness of the training. Preparation of Training Plan.
Trainer shall:
- Prepare a detailed Training Work Plan
- Develop daily session schedules, & define session duration
- Identify learning methods & plan group exercises
- Ensure time management
Delivery of Training Sessions- Trainer shall;
- Facilitate training sessions professionally
- Use participatory training methods
- Encourage group discussion
- Use visual materials
- Deliver content clearly, & manage time effectively
- Ensure equal participation & maintain positive learning environment
- Address participant questions, & provide practical examples
Training methods may include:
- Presentations, & Group work
- Role play, & Case studies
- Practical exercises, & demonstrations
Participant Engagement: The trainer should encourage active participation, monitor participants’ understanding, and support slow learners throughout the session. They must create a safe learning environment, respect diversity among participants, and ensure gender-sensitive facilitation.
Trainer shall:

The trainer shall coordinate closely with the project team by maintaining regular communication with AWN, participating in planning meetings, sharing updates consistently, following project guidelines, and supporting overall project objectives.

Required Skills- The trainer must demonstrate strong facilitation, communication, training design, and presentation skills, along with effective time management, problem-solving abilities, and report writing skills.
Duration of Assignment- Multiple sessions over 4 weeks time - depending on Number of Session & Training Schedule.
Ethical and Professional Standards- Trainer shall maintain confidentiality, respect all participants, ensure fairness, avoid discrimination, uphold professional conduct, and follow safeguarding standards at all times.
Performance Evaluation: Trainer performance will be evaluated based on the quality of training delivery, participant satisfaction, the quality of training materials, timely submission of deliverables, and the achievement of learning outcomes.
