Key responsibilities
Enterprise Server Hardware
- Install, configure, and troubleshoot HPE ProLiant DL360/DL380 Gen10 and other deployed HPE generations, plus Dell PowerEdge R7xx servers. Verify each installed model/generation and maintain lifecycle, capacity, and component-compatibility records.
- Diagnose CPU, memory, motherboard, RAID controller, disk, NIC, power supply, and cooling failures.
- Administer HPE iLO, Dell iDRAC, BIOS/UEFI, hardware monitoring, and diagnostic tools.
- Configure RAID arrays, logical drives, and redundant network/power connections.
- Plan generation-specific BIOS/firmware, controller, driver, and management-tool updates. Validate CPU, DIMM, SAS/SATA/NVMe, NIC, PSU, operating system, hypervisor, and storage compatibility before controlled installation.
- Identify exact compatible spare-part numbers; diagnose, replace, and test failed components. Maintain stock, condition, replenishment, and warranty/RMA records, escalating to specialists as required.
Enterprise Storage
- Administer HPE MSA 2000-series SAN storage, including deployed 2050/2060/2062 variants, and Dell EMC Unity where deployed. Verify the installed model before applying firmware, replacements, or storage changes.
- Configure storage pools, RAID groups, volumes, LUNs, host mappings, and access controls.
- Manage iSCSI/NFS connectivity and host multipathing; support Fibre Channel where deployed.
- Diagnose disk, controller, cache, path, latency, and capacity issues.
- Coordinate storage expansion, component replacement, and recovery without compromising data integrity.
- Validate storage redundancy and maintain configuration backups.
Cross-team integration and support
- Work closely with IT System Administration (SAT), PS Core, Signaling/SPS, IN, HLR/HSS, OSS/BSS, IT Development, DWH & Mediation, VAS, Network Information Security and IP/MPLS teams.
- Agree on hosting, cluster, storage, network, operating-system, backup and recovery dependencies.
- Coordinate secure management access, VLANs/routing, DNS/NTP, redundant paths and maintenance windows with the responsible owners.
- Work with qualified facilities personnel on power, cooling, and physical work.
- Validate IN connectivity and services with application owners after changes, repairs, or recovery. These interfaces do not change reporting to the Team Lead.
VMware & Linux
- Administer VMware ESXi/vCenter, IN host clusters, virtual machines, virtual networking, and shared datastores; maintain cluster health, HA settings, resource allocation, and supported compatibility.
- Troubleshoot host failures, VM performance, and storage-connectivity problems.
- Execute controlled host/cluster maintenance, VM migrations, upgrades, and rollback; validate redundancy, quorum, and failover behaviors where applicable before returning to service.
- Administer deployed operating systems, including Debian, Ubuntu, and RHEL, and Windows Server where used. Maintain patching, repositories, services, filesystems, security, and runtime dependencies.
- Automate infrastructure configuration and health checks using Ansible and scripting.
Data Centre Operations & Reliability
- Maintain rack layouts, asset inventories, serial numbers, hardware configurations, and cabling records.
- Support Aruba 6300M switch/stack health, configuration backups, VLANs, link aggregation, optics, DACs, and redundant paths; coordinate approved connectivity changes with IP/MPLS and platform owners.
- Monitor Vertiv Liebert ITA2 10kVA/10kW UPS, battery banks, 32A PDUs and load-transfer switches (LTS), including alarms, redundancy, load and runtime. Coordinate electrical/battery work with qualified authorized personnel.
- Plan controlled shutdown, de-racking, protective packing, relocation, reinstallation and commissioning; preserve configurations, asset custody, rack/port/cable maps and post-move server, storage, network and service checks.
- Execute infrastructure backup, restoration and failover tests.
- Lead IN hardware, infrastructure and cluster incident diagnosis, corrective action and post-incident review. Maintain tested recovery runbooks and coordinate IN service restoration with application owners.
- Manage maintenance-provider tickets, preventive maintenance, spare-part readiness and post-repair acceptance.
- Train backup engineers and participate in an agreed on-call rotation.
Application responsibilities and delivery
- Take over the IN data centre and clusters from the vendor end-to-end. Acquire and validate architecture, asset/VM inventories, administrative access, configuration backups, automation scripts, licenses/support entitlements, maintenance history, recovery procedures, and practical knowledge transfer.
- Own preventive maintenance, hardware diagnosis, corrective repair, component replacement, and post-repair acceptance. Maintain compatible spares, support entitlements, configuration records, firmware compatibility, and maintenance calendars.
- Own assigned physical and virtual servers, VMware/virtualization, Linux/other deployed operating systems, SAN/NAS, cluster and management services, backup infrastructure and redundant paths. Cover production/DR and legacy/cloud IN within AWCC’s access and administrative remit.
IN infrastructure technology coverage
- Maintain the assigned production, disaster-recovery and testbed infrastructure. Confirm each asset’s model, generation, configuration, firmware, license, and support status before changes; record discrepancies rather than assuming inventory labels are correct.
- Use Bash/Linux scripting, Ansible, and PowerCLI/PowerShell where applicable for configuration, monitoring, diagnostics, and recovery. Assign primary and backup responsibilities between the two engineers, with leave and on-call coverage.
Supporting infrastructure and restoration checks
- Support assigned F5 BIG-IP LTM physical appliances, including i2600 where deployed, and Virtual Edition: virtual servers/VIPs, pools, health monitors, HA/configuration sync, certificates, configuration backups and version/licence compatibility. Coordinate routing and application policy changes with the authorised owners; verify host, hypervisor and throughput dependencies.
- Maintain supported Aruba 6300M software/configuration, VLANs, link aggregation, redundant links, optics/DACs and deployed link speeds. Inspect KVM consoles/switches, including HPE AF644A/AF617A where deployed, racks, rails, cabling, management access and port maps. Verify exact asset models, firmware, support status, and compatible parts before intervention.
- Validate UPS, battery bank, 32A PDU and LTS alarm escalation, load, runtime and redundant-feed readiness. Use safe equipment handling and site procedures; electrical/battery work remains with qualified authorised facilities personnel. Verify server, storage, virtualisation, connectivity and IN application/service restoration after repair, recovery or relocation; hardware power-up alone is not acceptance.
- Both engineers must demonstrate core hands-on server, storage, VMware and Linux fault diagnosis, controlled repair and recovery. Complementary product strengths may be allocated after these core checks; maintain named primary and backup responsibilities, compatible spares and a realistic on-call arrangement.
Working arrangements and performance
- Protect live services and data through approved access, tested changes, verified rollback and authorised production deployment or maintenance. Escalate unavailable access, unsupported dependencies and material risks; retain evidence of change and recovery outcomes.
- Own assigned deliverables, usable documentation and trained backup cover. Agree priorities, capacity, escalation, planned maintenance and an on-call rota with the reporting manager; no individual is expected to provide continuous coverage alone.
- The Team Lead sets priorities, assigns infrastructure ownership and escalation. The named Team Lead and formal line-manager assignment remain to be confirmed. Track availability, maintenance completion, repeat hardware failures, change success, capacity headroom, recovery results, and backup readiness; IN application owners approve their service outcomes.
