Main duty and Responsibility

Clinical and Nursing Services

• Provide nursing care and assist in outpatient consultations and treatment services.
• Conduct patient assessment including measuring vital signs and identifying danger signs.
• Administer prescribed medications and treatments according to physician instructions and national protocols.
• Support maternal, newborn, and child healthcare services including IMCI and routine nursing care.
• Assist in emergency management and stabilization of critically ill patients before referral.
• Prepare patients for procedures and assist physicians during examinations and treatment.
• Provide counselling and health education to patients and caregivers on hygiene, nutrition, medication adherence, breastfeeding, immunization, and disease prevention.
• Ensure proper follow-up of patients and referrals when necessary.
• Ensure proper infection prevention and control (IPC) practices within the health facility.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper organization of consultation and treatment rooms.
• Ensure proper sterilization and disinfection of medical instruments and equipment.
• Support proper medical waste segregation and disposal according to national standards.
• Monitor availability and proper use of medical supplies, medicines, and consumables.

HMIS and Reporting

• Maintain accurate patient records, nursing registers, and reporting tools.
• Support timely completion and submission of HMIS reports and related documentation.
• Report communicable diseases, unusual cases, and outbreaks according to reporting procedures.
• Assist in monitoring patient outcomes and service utilization.
• Coordinate with community health workers (CHWs), outreach teams, and referral facilities to improve access to healthcare services.
• Participate in outreach services, vaccination campaigns, health promotion, and awareness activities.
• Support community mobilization activities and health education sessions.
• Coordinate with provincial health authorities and other stakeholders when required.
• Ensure respect, confidentiality, and dignity for all patients.
• Adhere to Concern’s safeguarding, PSEA, and Code of Conduct policies at all times.
• Report protection, safeguarding, or security concerns through appropriate mechanisms.
• Perform any other duties assigned by the line manager relevant to programme objectives.

Monitoring and Evaluation:

• Support routine monitoring activities and reporting requirements.
• Participate in supervisory visits, assessments, and quality improvement activities.
• Support the M&E team during field monitoring and assessments when required.

Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS):

• The concern is committed to CHS to ensure downward accountability. CHS standards guide Concern activities in all stages both emergency and development projects /programs. In Afghanistan, we also bounded our activities by Accountability framework and therefore any Afghanistan employees is responsible to comply with CHS principles and benchmarks as instructed by its policies and therefore make sure that all accept and implement CHS standards in all our activities.
• To give full support in relation to emergencies/ humanitarian operations when occurring in any area that Concern Afghanistan will respond. This can include but is not limited to participation in the Concern Afghanistan Rapid Deployment Unit (CARDU) and deployment on emergency response teams

Education and Experience:

• Nursing graduate from a recognized nursing institute.
• Valid nursing practice license/certification from relevant authorities.
• Additional training in IMCI, IPC, emergency care, or RMNCH is an advantage.
• At least 2 years of experience as a nurse in BPHS/EPHS or humanitarian health programmes.
• Good knowledge of BPHS and EPHS programmes.
• Experience working in BHC/SHC health facilities is preferred.
• Previous NGO experience in development and/or humanitarian response is an advantage.
• Local candidates are encouraged to apply.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to communicate clearly and sensitively with patients and colleagues.
• Good communication skills (written and spoken) in Dari and Pashto.
• Basic English language skills are an advantage.
